A Brief History of Yogurt:

Yogurt is a dairy product made by the bacterial fermentation of milk, where lactose (milk sugar) is converted into lactic acid. It can range from a liquid to a solid consistency.

Originating in the Balkans, yogurt and similar fermented dairy products like Arabic leben, Russian koumiss, Turkish jugurt, and Caucasian kefir have been consumed for thousands of years. Its popularity grew following research by Russian physician Ilya Ilyich Mechnikov, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1908 (Source: Wikipedia).
