Ingredients for Potato Gnocchi:
- 1.1 lbs (approx. 500g) of potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold work best)
- Approximately 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (approx. 100g) of finely grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
How to make Potato Gnocchi:
- Boil the potatoes with their skins on in salted water until tender.
- Remove the potatoes from the pot and peel them while still hot. Use a paper towel to protect your hands.
- Mash the potatoes until smooth. Add the butter, Parmesan cheese, and half of the flour. Mix well.
- Add salt to taste and gradually incorporate the remaining flour, kneading the dough until it no longer sticks to your hands and feels dry.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into long ropes and cut them into bite-sized pieces for the gnocchi.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the gnocchi until they float to the surface. Remove them with a slotted spoon.
- Serve your potato gnocchi with your favorite sauce, such as rustic tomato sauce, Alfredo, pesto, or marinara. The choice is yours!
Pro Tip:
An important tip when making gnocchi is to peel the potatoes while they are still hot. This allows excess steam to escape, resulting in drier potatoes and a lighter, better-textured gnocchi.
