How to Make the Perfect Homemade Hamburger

  • 2 lbs (approx. 900g) ground beef (use 80/20 lean-to-fat ratio);
  • 1 teaspoon salt;
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper;
  • 7 oz (200g) cheddar cheese slices;
  • 4 hamburger buns;
  • Ketchup;
  • Mayonnaise;
  • Fresh lettuce to taste.

How to make homemade burgers:

  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper, mixing well to incorporate;
  2. Divide the meat into medium-sized balls;
  3. To shape the patties, find a round mold—a medium lid or a dedicated burger press works perfectly;
  4. Line your mold with plastic wrap and place a ball of meat inside;
  5. Press down firmly on the meat until it forms an even, circular patty;
  6. Carefully fold the plastic wrap over the patty and remove it from the mold;
  7. Set them aside to rest while you prepare the rest;
  8. Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat;
  9. Sear the patties in batches, ensuring there is enough space to flip them comfortably;
  10. While the patties cook to your preferred doneness, prepare your buns;
  11. Spread a generous amount of mayonnaise and ketchup on the bottom bun;
  12. Just before removing the burgers from the heat, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty to melt;
  13. Transfer the cheeseburger to the prepared bun;
  14. Top with fresh lettuce and close with the top bun;
