Today we are making a incredibly easy and quick bread that is absolutely delicious. Our go-to recipe to start the day right is: Air Fryer Sandwich Bread. It is prepared with just a few pantry staples, takes very little time, and leverages the convenience of your air fryer. Plus, it is a super versatile recipe that you can customize with your favorite toppings. Let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/4 tsp (approx. 4g) active dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil

How to make Air Fryer Sandwich Bread:

  1. To begin, grease a bread pan that fits in your air fryer with butter and a dusting of flour. A non-stick pan works best.
  2. In a mixing bowl, measure out the all-purpose flour.
  3. In a blender, combine: olive oil, warm milk, salt, sugar, and yeast. Blend well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
  4. Pour the liquid mixture into the bowl with the flour and mix well. The dough will be quite moist and sticky—that is exactly how it should be!
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (180°C) for 3 minutes.
  6. Pour the dough evenly into your prepared bread pan.
  7. Place the pan inside the air fryer (with the power off). Close the air fryer and let the dough proof until it doubles in size. This took about 30 minutes for us, but it can vary depending on the room temperature, so keep an eye on it.
  8. Once proofed, turn the air fryer to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 15 minutes.
  9. After that, increase the temperature to 320°F (160°C) and bake for another 10-15 minutes (keep an eye on it to ensure the top doesn’t burn).
  10. Once baked, brush the top with a little butter for a nice shine and leave it in the turned-off air fryer for about 5 minutes.
  11. Remove the pan from the air fryer and unmold the bread; it should release easily.
  12. Let it cool slightly before slicing. Enjoy!

Pro-tip:

You can make your bread even more nutritious and flavorful! We love adding chia seeds into the dough and topping it with pumpkin or sunflower seeds. Feel free to get creative with your favorite mix-ins!

Prep and Cook Time:

Total time is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, including the dough rising time (which may vary based on your kitchen temperature).

Yield:

Makes about 6 slices.

Did you know?

It’s interesting to note that the rectangular shape and uniform slices of sandwich bread were actually invented by an American baker named Otto Frederick Rohwedder in 1928. Before that, bread was typically sold as whole loaves or in irregular chunks. Rohwedder created the first bread-slicing machine and packaging that kept slices fresh for longer.

The original idea was to simplify life for home cooks, who no longer had to slice bread by hand. This innovation helped make sandwich bread a household staple we know and love today.
