Easter is one of the most significant celebrations worldwide, and the tradition of exchanging chocolate eggs has become a beloved highlight. For those who love spending time in the kitchen, making your own homemade traditional Easter egg is a rewarding and delicious experience, especially when done with family. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to create the perfect classic chocolate egg from scratch. Let’s get started!

Ingredients for your homemade Easter egg:

  • 1.1 lbs (approx. 500g) Milk chocolate bar;
  • 1 Easter egg mold (silicone molds with a flexible insert are recommended);
  • Filling of your choice (optional).

How to make a traditional homemade Easter egg:

  1. Start by chopping the chocolate into small, even pieces and placing them in a heat-resistant bowl;
  2. Melt the chocolate using a double boiler (bain-marie), stirring constantly until it is completely smooth and melted;
  3. Pour half of the melted chocolate into the Easter egg mold. Spread it evenly using the back of a spoon or a kitchen brush, ensuring the mold is fully coated;
  4. Place the mold in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set;
  5. Remove from the fridge and apply a second layer of chocolate over the first, once again covering the mold completely;
  6. Return the mold to the refrigerator for another 10 minutes;
  7. If you wish to add a filling, add it to the bottom half of the egg, leaving about a 0.5-inch border around the edges;
  8. Place the mold back in the refrigerator for another 5 minutes;
  9. Once firm, carefully unmold the egg, and you’re all set;
  10. Now, it’s time to enjoy your creation!

Pro Tip:

Before you begin, make sure your molds are completely clean and dry. This ensures that the chocolate doesn’t stick and gives you a professional, glossy finish.
