If you’ve been looking for a quick and easy dessert option, you’ve just found it—and the best part is how incredibly delicious it is. This Strawberry Meringue is a classic sweet treat that requires only a few ingredients to create something amazing. Let’s get to the recipe!

Ingredients for Strawberry Meringue:

  • 2 bags of meringue cookies (store-bought);
  • 2 cans (14 oz each) of sweetened condensed milk;
  • 1 can (approx. 10 oz) of table cream (creme de leite);
  • 3 cartons (approx. 1 lb each) of fresh strawberries;
  • 1 tbsp of ice cream stabilizer (emulsifier).

How to make Strawberry Meringue:

  1. Wash the strawberries well and set aside a few whole ones for garnish;
  2. Dice the remaining strawberries into small pieces and set aside;
  3. In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, combine the two cans of sweetened condensed milk and the table cream;
  4. Beat for 2 minutes;
  5. Add the tablespoon of emulsifier and continue beating until the cream is thick, airy, and fluffy.

Assembly:

  1. Take a large glass dish or trifle bowl and spread a layer of the cream evenly on the bottom;
  2. Break the meringue cookies into bite-sized pieces and spread them over the cream until covered;
  3. Add a layer of strawberries over the meringue cookies, repeating the layers until you’ve used all the ingredients;
  4. Finish by garnishing with the whole strawberries you set aside and a few extra cookie crumbles;
  5. Refrigerate for at least two hours before serving. Enjoy!

Pro Tip:

For the best texture when making homemade meringue shells, it is important to add the sugar gradually while whipping the egg whites. This creates a stable, airy, and crisp meringue.

Fun Fact:

Although widely known as a classic Latin American dessert, meringue actually originated in Europe. It is believed that the recipe was brought to Latin America by Spanish colonizers during the colonial period.
