Once you try this homemade strawberry jam, you’ll never want to buy store-bought jelly again. It’s absolutely delicious on bread, crackers, toast, or swirled into yogurt.
Ingredients:
- 1.1 lbs (approx. 500g) fresh strawberries;
- 4 tablespoons demerara sugar (or turbinado sugar);
- Non-stick saucepan.
How to make homemade strawberry jam:
- Chop the strawberries into small pieces;
- Add the strawberries to your non-stick saucepan;
- Add the sugar;
- Mix everything together;
- Cover and let it simmer over medium heat;
- The strawberries will release a lot of water; let the liquid reduce well, keeping an eye on it to prevent sticking or burning;
- Once the syrup has thickened, turn off the heat;
- Allow it to cool completely, then transfer to a glass jar with a lid;
- Store in the refrigerator—it will keep for several days!
Did you know?
Beyond fruit jams, the concept of “jelly” in the culinary world extends to savory preparations made from vegetables, meats, or fish, which result in a soft, trembling consistency.
Savory jellies, often referred to as “aspic,” are transparent gelatinous substances widely used in professional cooking.
