Ingredients for your Mug Flan:

  • Brown sugar, to taste;
  • 6 tbsp sweetened condensed milk;
  • 4 tbsp whole milk;
  • 1 tbsp water;
  • 1 large egg;
  • 2 tbsp granulated white sugar;

How to make Mug Flan:

  1. In a small bowl, crack the egg;
  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and the milk;
  3. Whisk everything well and set aside;
  4. In a microwave-safe mug, mix the granulated sugar and water;
  5. Microwave for about 1 minute until it caramelizes;
  6. It should turn into a thick, golden-brown syrup. If it’s not ready, microwave in 10-15 second intervals until you reach the right color and consistency, keeping a close eye so it doesn’t burn;
  7. Carefully tilt and rotate the mug to coat the bottom and sides with the caramel;
  8. Pour the egg and milk mixture into the prepared mug;
  9. Microwave for about 1 minute;
  10. Check the consistency. If it’s not set, continue in 10-second intervals until done (do not exceed 2 minutes total);
  11. Carefully remove the mug from the microwave and let it cool;
  12. Wait 15 to 20 minutes before enjoying it directly from the mug, or unmold it onto a plate. Sprinkle with brown sugar if desired!
