The weekend is almost here, and we’ve got the perfect refreshing drink for you to whip up at home for friends and family. Today, we’re making a Watermelon Smash. Have you heard of it? It’s the ultimate summer cocktail. Let’s get to the recipe!
Ingredients for your Watermelon Smash:
- 5 large cubes of fresh watermelon;
- Ice, to taste;
- 4 fresh mint leaves;
- 0.3 fl oz (2 tsp) fresh lime juice;
- 1 fl oz simple syrup;
- 1.7 fl oz watermelon-infused vodka (or regular vodka).
How to make a Watermelon Smash:
- Place 4 mint leaves in a cocktail shaker or sturdy glass.
- Add about 5 seedless watermelon cubes.
- Muddle the watermelon and mint together to extract the juices.
- Add the simple syrup (you can make this by dissolving equal parts sugar and water).
- Pour in the vodka and add ice to taste.
- Shake vigorously in a cocktail shaker (or a sealed jar if you don’t have one).
- Pour into a glass—do not strain, so you keep all that delicious fresh flavor.
- Top with more ice, garnish if desired, and enjoy!
Did you know?
Vodka originated in Eastern Europe, though its exact roots—whether China, Japan, Russia, or Poland—remain debated. In Russia, the Czars halted production at the start of World War I, but it resumed in 1925 to combat the illegal black market that had emerged.
The word “vodka” is actually a diminutive form of the Slavic word for “water,” essentially meaning “little water.” (Source: Wikipedia).
