Ingredients for Homemade Rye Bread:
- 1 large egg
- 1 ¼ cups buttermilk or plain yogurt (to make homemade buttermilk, add a splash of lemon juice to regular milk)
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ¾ cup rye flour
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
How to Make Rye Bread:
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg and the yogurt or buttermilk together until well combined.
- Add the flours, salt, and baking soda. Mix well on medium speed until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into 3 equal parts.
- Lightly dust the top of the loaves with flour.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the loaves on top.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (180°C) for about 30 to 40 minutes.
