This easy and delicious homemade guava jam is a wonderful way to add a touch of charm to your breakfast, afternoon snacks, or picnics.
Beyond guava, many other fruits are fantastic for making simple and delicious jams, such as strawberry, blackberry, orange, pineapple, passion fruit, mango, or acerola. If you like a little kick, you can even add a touch of chili!
So, are you ready to make this wonderful jam?
Guava Jam Ingredients:
- 2.2 lbs (approx. 1 kg) red guavas
- Xylitol (or sweetener of choice) to taste
- Juice of 1 lemon
- 2/3 cup (150ml) water
How to Make Guava Jam:
- First, wash the guavas, trim the ends, and chop them with the peel on. Removing the seeds is optional—I usually remove them, but this time I left them in for extra fiber. I personally prefer it without seeds.
- Next, blend the guavas with the water and transfer the mixture to a pot over low heat. Add the lemon juice and Xylitol (I used about 2 tablespoons / 25ml). Let it simmer, stirring occasionally (be careful, as it may splatter).
- Finally, test the consistency by running a finger through the back of a spoon dipped in the jam.
Tips: Spread it on toast, pão de queijo (cheese bread), crackers, or sweet pancakes. It also makes a great dessert topping for ice cream or a key ingredient for the classic “Romeo and Juliet” (guava paste with cheese).
Storage: Store in glass jars in the refrigerator. It stays good for up to two months. It’s perfect for gifting or selling!
Grab your toast and let’s serve up this delicious treat!
