Breaded beef steak, known as Bife à Milanesa, is a beloved staple in Brazilian homes and restaurants. Today, we are sharing a healthier, mess-free way to enjoy this classic: oven-baked breaded steak. It turns out perfectly golden and delicious every time. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients for Oven-Baked Breaded Steak:
- 6 Top sirloin steaks (thinly sliced);
- 1 large egg;
- 1 cup breadcrumbs;
- Butter or cooking spray for the baking sheet;
- Fresh parsley, for garnish;
- 1 clove garlic, minced;
- Salt to taste;
- Black pepper to taste.
How to Make Oven-Baked Breaded Steak:
- Start by using a meat mallet to pound the steaks until thin and tender;
- Season the steaks with minced garlic, salt, and black pepper;
- In a shallow dish, lightly beat the egg;
- Dip each steak into the beaten egg, coating both sides;
- Dredge the steaks in breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure they are well-coated;
- Place the steaks on a well-greased baking sheet. Bake in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes;
- Carefully flip the steaks and bake for another 15 minutes until golden brown;
- Garnish with fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy!
Pro Tip:
If you have extra time, season the steaks and let them rest in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before breading. This extra step helps the meat stay juicy and enhances the flavor.
Did you know?
While often associated with Italian cuisine, the origins of breaded steak are debated. It is extremely popular across Latin America, especially in Brazil and Argentina. It is believed that the recipe was brought to the region by Italian immigrants during the 19th century.
