You don’t have to wait for the Brazilian June Festivals (Festas Juninas) to enjoy these seasonal delicacies. We are sharing our favorite recipe for a simple and creamy peanut drink, perfect for warming up on a chilly day. Let’s get cooking!
Ingredients for this simple and creamy peanut drink:
- 4 cups (1 liter) of whole milk;
- 5 oz (150g) of roasted, skinless peanuts;
- 1 can (14 oz) of sweetened condensed milk;
- Cloves and cinnamon sticks to taste (optional).
How to make this creamy peanut drink:
- If your peanuts are raw, toast them in a pan over medium heat, being careful not to burn them, as they will turn bitter.
- If you are using peanuts with skins, make sure to remove them completely after roasting.
- Pulse the peanuts in a blender or food processor until coarsely chopped. Be careful not to process them into a fine flour or peanut butter.
- Remove half of the crushed peanuts and set them aside.
- Leave the other half in the blender, add the milk and sweetened condensed milk, and blend until well combined.
- Pour the mixture into a medium pot and add the reserved crushed peanuts, cinnamon sticks, and cloves.
- Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens slightly.
- All done! Serve it nice and hot.
Pro Tip:
If you prefer a perfectly smooth drink, you can blend all the peanuts together. However, adding some crushed peanuts at the end gives it a wonderful texture. You can add all the peanuts at the boiling stage or split them as we did in this recipe.
Did you know?
Despite being called “peanut tea” (chá de amendoim) in Brazil, this drink isn’t technically a tea, as it’s not made from plant leaves. It earned its name due to the brewing style similar to traditional teas. The addition of sweetened condensed milk is what makes it so incredibly creamy and decadent.
