Let’s start the day with a sensational recipe. Air Fryer Pão de Queijo (Brazilian cheese bread) is the simplest, most fuss-free way to make this classic treat. Plus, it’s a version made with simple, wholesome ingredients that are easy to find. Let’s get to the recipe!

Ingredients for Air Fryer Pão de Queijo:

  • 10.5 oz (approx. 2 1/2 cups) Tapioca starch (the hydrated version/tapioca flour);
  • 3.5 oz (approx. 1/3 cup) Cream cheese or requeijão;
  • 1/4 tsp salt;
  • 3.5 oz (approx. 1 cup) Shredded mozzarella cheese;
  • 1.75 oz (approx. 1/2 cup) Grated Parmesan cheese.

How to make Air Fryer Pão de Queijo:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the tapioca starch and the cream cheese;
  2. Add the salt and the cheeses;
  3. Mix everything thoroughly;
  4. The result will be a firm, yet quite sticky dough;
  5. Place the dough in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes to firm up, which makes it easier to shape the cheese balls;
  6. Once chilled, remove the dough from the fridge;
  7. Lightly coat your hands with olive oil and scoop out portions of the dough;
  8. Roll into balls of your desired size;
  9. Place a piece of parchment paper in the air fryer basket and arrange the cheese balls, ensuring they do not touch;
  10. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for about 10 minutes, or until lightly golden;
  11. Flip them over and bake for another 5 minutes to golden the other side;
  12. All set! Enjoy your delicious snack.

Tips:

If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these in a conventional oven as well. Simply preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and bake for about 20 minutes. You can also customize your cheese bread by adding seeds into the dough, such as chia, flax, or sesame seeds.
