Today we’re showing you how to make this incredible Easy Crispy Pastel! These fried pastries are the perfect option to curb your hunger quickly, affordably, and deliciously. You won’t believe how simple it is to prepare this snack that will have everyone’s mouth watering.
Ingredients for the Easy Crispy Pastel:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup water (approx. 6 oz)
- A pinch of salt
- Your choice of filling (in this example, we used mozzarella cheese, mild semi-hard cheese, and diced sausage/calabresa)
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the 2 cups of all-purpose flour and gradually add the water (about 3/4 cup or until the dough reaches the right consistency). Add a pinch of salt.
- Mix well until the dough is smooth. You can start with a spatula in the bowl and finish by kneading on a floured surface, adding a little more flour if necessary, until the dough no longer sticks to your hands.
- Let the dough rest for about 5 minutes, covered with plastic wrap.
- Roll out the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface until it is very thin.
- Cut the dough into circles (for half-moons) or squares (for the traditional style) and place your chosen filling in the center. In this example, we used mozzarella, a mild semi-hard cheese, and diced sausage.
- Lightly moisten the edges of the dough with water to help seal the pastry. Fold it over and press the edges firmly with a fork to seal well.
- Heat oil in a deep pan or fryer and fry the pastries until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Pro Tip:
These pastries are completely customizable. Use any ingredients you like for the filling! Try them with cheese, ground beef, shredded chicken, hearts of palm, or even sweet fillings like chocolate and banana.
