How to make homemade gummy candies:
- In a saucepan, add the water and the unflavored gelatin. Stir to combine.
- Next, add the sugar and the flavored gelatin.
- Stir well and place over medium heat.
- Stir occasionally until it starts to boil.
- Once it boils, stop stirring and let it simmer until you see large bubbles forming on the surface.
- When the mixture thickens, remove it from the heat.
- Let it cool at room temperature for about 5 minutes.
- Lightly grease a glass dish or container with vegetable oil.
- Pour the gummy mixture into the prepared dish.
- Place in the refrigerator uncovered for one hour.
- Cover and refrigerate for an additional 8 hours to set completely.
- Once set, remove from the fridge and run a knife around the edges to help release the gelatin.
- Cut into your desired shapes and toss them in granulated sugar to coat.
- Enjoy! If you want to store them in bags or containers, make sure they are at room temperature before packing.
Tips:
If you have silicone molds, you can pour the mixture directly into them before refrigerating for fun shapes. Feel free to make multiple batches using different flavors to create a colorful variety.

Gummy candies, often known as fruit snacks or jellies, are beloved worldwide. It is believed that the first gummy candies were created in Germany around the 17th century using gum arabic, a natural tree sap. Over time, the recipe evolved, and gelatin became the primary ingredient, providing the soft, chewy texture we all know and love today.
