Dough:
- 1 egg;
- 1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder (50% cocoa);
- 3.5 tbsp (50g) unsalted butter, softened;
- 1 tsp (6g) salt;
- 1/3 cup (100g) sweetened condensed milk;
- 1/3 cup (40g) powdered milk;
- 2 3/4 cups (360g) all-purpose flour.
Starter (Sponge):
- 1 cup (250ml) warm milk;
- 2 tbsp (30g) sugar;
- 1 1/2 tsp (5g) active dry yeast;
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour.
How to Make Homemade Chocolate Bread:
- Start by preparing the starter (sponge);
- In a bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, yeast, and flour;
- Mix everything well;
- Cover and let it rest for 15 minutes, or until the sponge becomes bubbly;
- Once ready, transfer the starter to a larger bowl and add the egg, condensed milk, powdered milk, cocoa powder, and sifted all-purpose flour;
- Add the salt last;
- Mix everything thoroughly to combine;
- When well combined, add the butter and knead until fully incorporated into the dough;
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size;
- After rising, transfer the dough to a work surface and gently press with your fingertips to deflate;
- Knead the dough for about 10 to 15 minutes until smooth;

- Place the shaped loaves on a baking sheet greased with vegetable oil;
- Cover and let them rest again until doubled in size;
